Suffolk Dog Day

On the last Sunday of July, thousands of dogs and their owners come together to sniff each other. Kieren and I went to SEE IT ALL. We both went with a list of beautiful creatures that we wanted to see, and ticked nearly all of them off – the only baby boy missing was the elusive Corgi.

Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii soft boy!

There were two rings for us to focus our sights on – one for sweet and village-y things like “Waggiest Tail”, “Prettiest Eyes” and even a fancy dress round – later I found the winner and was chatting to her about her costume, only to have her tell me she was in character as Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz…OOPZ. The other ring was for serious doggy matters, like “Best Pedigree”, “Best Long Coat” and “Suffolks Next Top Model Dog (Large)”.

The show itself took place in the Helmingham Hall grounds, a rolling green with little hills and woody sections, as well as a…er…hall! It was a classic build (probably) surrounded by a moat and GORGEOUS gardens. It was lovely to have a wander and see all the soft babylons frolicking in the greenery.

Plus look at these fleurs! It could have been brilliant for shooting a cheesy and soft focus calendar.

EVERYONE WAS HAVING A BRILLIANT DAY, EVEN THIS DOG WAS DOING A HUGE SMILE. EVERY DOG WAS SMILING EVEN THOUGH I READ SOMEWHERE THAT DOGS SMILE BUT ACTUALLY THEY’RE JUST HOT AND WE THINK THEY’RE HAPPY BUT ANSWER ME THIS, DO YOU EVER SEE A SMILING DOG IN WINTER? NO? THOUGHT NOT!

We may have taken fleas home, according to my mum – but it was worth it. We also smelled like dogs so much (to high heaven), that we stopped smelling like dogs. It was the weirdest thing. We met the wiggliest, giggliest and sweetest little puppy EVER. It was so wiggly it was impossible to take a photo of. WHICH END IS THIS?!

SOFT!

Also, we saw THREE PUPPIES IN A BASKET – plot twist: they were 13 years old and collectively they were 39 years old. In dog years and collectively, they were 273 years old. OMG.
